Of course this may not always be possible and there are certain advantages to traveling Dubai in hopes of finding a job as opposed to searching from one’s home country. For example, many employers will give preference to hiring someone actually in Dubai (and thus available for an interview), rather than having to endure the extra hassle and risk of hiring someone sight unseen. However, there is no guarantee of landing a job before expiration of one’s visa, making a bit of luck and local contacts invaluable in the process. Once a job seeker has secured a position, a contract will be signed and the employer will act as the sponsor. The contract should include basic salary, job title and description, length of the contract, and termination conditions among other things. It is vital to negotiate a good package including salary, housing, and school fees if the employee has children. Other allowances may include coverage for medical, transportation, utilities, and / or annual vacation with an airplane ticket to one’s home country.

    As a career counselor, career guidance professional, and HR professional who has hired or placed 1,340+ professionals, my source for many articles come from clients.

    This article is generated by personal observation in the marketplace. It shouldn’t surprise you that one of my focuses is staffing and placement. From both a corporate and professional services acumen, I’ve observed the market and changing trends.

    In a corporate environment, I directed hiring for departments with specific titles and specific responsibilities. For example, a Financial Analyst II did specific tasks, performed specific functions, and had defined outputs. A Financial Analyst III had other tasks at a higher level and functioned within specific job functions. To be hired in a specific position meant the individual functioned in the specific position.

    This scenario was evident in technology, engineering, and most other fields: Employees with the same title performed specific area of tasks.

    With the down-turn in the economy, departments lost budget and lost personnel, but still the department had to maintain a certain level of output.

    The solution that firms are utilizing today is combining several positions into one job. If the company can fill two positions with one hire, this is a bottom-line improvement.

    Today, several firms will combine three functions into one new hire and new hire consideration will only be given if all three requirements are met.

    This makes a job search more difficult that ever before. It’s doubtful this “combining of positions” will change in the future. In fact, research indicates this trend will only intensify. No one will go back to old-hiring practices

    How should you combat this trend? If you are still employed and your department is using this scenario, request training for the new technology / demands are offered. You also may go to a job board and see if other companies are doing the same with job requirements. You must be pro-active and you need to update your background.

    If you are seeking employment and are not getting any traction in your area of specialization, go to job boards, ask recruiting firms, find people in the industry and determine if job-dynamics and “piling on responsibilities” is keeping you out of a job.

    If this is the case, show your defined expertise, take an introductory class or training, modify your resume and get on with your job search. Then be able to share your knowledge with the correct hiring manager in a target company.

If you have found the potential job online, such as a government position, the website will have exactly what you will need to complete and send in before you will be granted an interview. Follow these instructions exactly if you have any expectations of getting an interview. Some of the requirements may seem strange, for example, a city position may ask that you hand write an outline or your thoughts on a separate piece of paper and include that with your application. If they ask for it, just do it. They have their reasons which may be that they want to see if you can follow directions.

The process is hassle free, provided you have all documents required.

    To start, members of the following Nationalities should have no problems getting visas to Dubai, since they can easily be granted one on arrival at Dubai Airport. The Nationalities are as follows: GCC Nationals who are composed of Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. The others include; Germany, France, Luxembourg, Italy, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Ireland, Portugal, Belgium, Greece, Liechtenstein, Spain, Iceland, San Marino, Vatican City, and Andorra. Lastly, there is the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Brunei, Japan, and Hong Kong. However, you must ensure you check for updates, since the list of countries is updated by the Dubai government. It would be wise to establish contact with the Dubai government website.

    If your Nationality doesn’t fall on the above list, please make sure your passport is obtained from a sponsor. This can be done in three ways. Firstly, you can get sponsorship from an individual who possesses a Dubai residence visa, and has an income exceeding more than AED 4000/month. Secondly, it can be done by a travel agent or hotel, and lastly, through a company that is already operating in Dubai. Additionally, for the sponsorship to go through, the sponsor should be in a position to submit your visa application accompanied by the relevant visa fee. Thus, a Dubai visit visa is only valid for 55 days from the time the visitor enters Dubai/UAE. However, it is only renewable for an additional one month.

    Other ways of getting a visit Visa to Dubai include the following: You may opt to fly with Emirates Airlines. Visitors flying Emirates Airlines are eligible to send visa applications to the Dubai Visa Processing Centres (DVPC). However, this is limited to some countries. For more information on this, contact your nearest Emirates office. It is also possible to be granted a visa if you are traveling during a major festival period. The restrictions in place at such times are loosened a bit. Such festival periods include the Dubai shopping festival. Another option is staying in a major hotel, since majority of these major hotels sponsor their visitors. If a visitor is willing to stay in the hotel for a little longer, then the hotel will organize on how a visa will be issued.

    In case you are intending to spend more time in Dubai or the UAE, then you might be forced to apply for a residence visa.
